Using Tech for Book Marketing

Kate Gingold from Sprocket WebsitesKate has been building websites with her husband Don since 1996 for all sorts of clients, including authors.

Kate regularly writes about online marketing for Sprocket Websites and provides tips and techniques for entrepreneurs and small-business owners. Since being an author today is not really different from being an entrepreneur with a small business, most of those tips are just as useful to authors.

Kate is an author herself. She writes books on local history, including the award-winning "Ruth by Lake and Prairie," a fictionalized account of the true story of Great Lake pioneering to the shores of Chicago and beyond to found Naperville, Illinois.

New Friends Made at Frugal Muse Event

January's multi-author event at Frugal Muse Books, Music and Video went off swimmingly with a small, but friendly group of writers and readers.

Most of the authors hadn't actually met each other before as we communicated through email, so we got a chance to chat and learn more about it each other. Those in the audience, for the most part, came to support one particular author and said it was a pleasant bonus to hear from the rest of the panel, especially since we all write in different genres.

In about 10 minutes each, we talked a little bit about our process and writing journey and read a bit from our work. One woman came up to us afterwards and said she felt like a kid again, being read to. "I had forgotten how nice it is to have someone reading to me." Between readings, acoustic guitarist Joe Eddy Brown entertained us with some retro rock favorites.

Many thanks to Barbara who organized the event, to Paul at Frugal Muse Books, Music and Video for giving us the space, to Joe for the music and to Karen, Angela, Dennis for bringing refreshments. Hopefully, we'll be able to do it again sometime!

Here are the five authors who were part of this Comfort & Joy event:
Karen Sjoblom
Angela Holtz
Barbara Lipkin
Dennis Bartizal
Kate Gingold
